Charissa Promes ontving afgelopen zondag 2 februari de aller eerste Wildcard van Miss Universe Netherlands. Charissa zal in het nationale traject de stad Blaricum vertegenwoordigen op het grote podium in Studio 21 in Hilversum! Na haar winst stelden wij haar een aantal vragen om Charissa beter te leren kennen.
Charissa, wie ben je en wat doe je?
Ik ben Charissa Promes en ik ben moeder van drie jongens. Daarnaast ben ik public speaker en dagvoorzitter en help ik jonge gezinnen de mentale lasten van een gezin eerlijk te verdelen. Sinds dit jaar mag ik mij ook Miss Universe Blaricum 2025 noemen, waar ik mij ontzettend vereerd over voel.
Wat wil je bereiken voor jezelf met je deelname aan Miss Universe Netherlands?
Met mijn deelname aan deze verkiezing wil ik een deel van mijzelf terugclaimen. Door het moederschap heb ik lange tijd een deel van mijn lichaam gedeeld en mijn vrouwelijkheid voor een gedeelte opgegeven, en met liefde. Maar nu is het tijd om daar weer balans in te vinden. Ook wil ik durven ruimte in te nemen, mezelf niet weg te stoppen, en een mooie band opbouwen met medefinalisten.
Welke boodschap wil je overbrengen aan de maatschappij tijdens het Nederlandse traject en waarom?
Ik vind het belangrijk om het bewustzijn rondom mentale gezondheidsproblemen van moeders te vergroten. 1 op 5 vrouwen krijgt na geboorte van hun kind te maken met mentale uitdagingen en dat is lang niet altijd alleen een individueel probleem. Het is vaak ook het gevolg van hoe we onze maatschappij nu hebben ingericht. We hebben moeders nodig om voort te blijven bestaan als ras. Dus we worden er allemaal beter van, als we als samenleving de mensen ondersteunen die nieuw leven dragen. Daarnaast wil ik door mijn deelname laten zien dat moeders nog steeds hun dromen kunnen najagen, ondanks dat het ze niet gemakkelijk wordt gemaakt.
Welke eigenschappen maken jou uniek en hoe wil jij dit gaan inzetten in de verkiezing?
Ik ben leergierig, ambitieus en sta altijd open voor feedback. Daardoor hoop ik mijzelf zoveel mogelijk te ontwikkelen op verschillende vlakken. Verder ben ik voormalig danser en mijn podiumervaring zal mij zeker helpen met ‘stage presence’. Tot slot sta ik graag in dienst van iets groters, en hoop daarom ook veel bij te kunnen dragen aan het goede doel dat we steunen, namelijk stichting Simavi.
Vertel een leuk feitje of een bijzonder verhaal over jezelf:
Een van de meest gestelde vragen die ik al van jongs af aan krijg, is: is dat echt allemaal jouw haar? Ja, dat is echt mijn eigen haar.

Charissa Promes Receives the First-Ever Wildcard for Miss Universe Netherlands This past Sunday, February 2nd, Charissa Promes was awarded the very first Wildcard for Miss Universe Netherlands. Charissa will represent the city of Blaricum in the national competition on the grand stage at Studio 21 in Hilversum! After her win, we asked her a few questions to get to know her better.
Charissa, who are you and what do you do?
I am Charissa Promes, a mother of three boys. In addition, I am a public speaker and event host, helping young families fairly distribute the mental load of parenting. As of this year, I am also honored to hold the title of Miss Universe Blaricum 2025.
What do you hope to achieve for yourself by participating in Miss Universe Netherlands?
Through this competition, I want to reclaim a part of myself. Motherhood has meant sharing my body for a long time and, in many ways, setting aside my femininity—willingly and with love. But now, it’s time to restore balance. I also want to embrace taking up space, stop hiding myself, and build a beautiful bond with my fellow finalists.
What message do you want to convey to society during the Dutch competition and why?
I find it important to raise awareness about mothers’ mental health struggles. One in five women faces mental challenges after childbirth, and this is often not just an individual issue. It is also a consequence of how our society is structured. We need mothers to continue the existence of our species. So, as a society, we all benefit when we support those who bring new life into the world. Additionally, through my participation, I want to show that mothers can still chase their dreams, even when the odds are against them.
What qualities make you unique, and how do you plan to use them in the competition?
I am eager to learn, ambitious, and always open to feedback. Because of this, I hope to develop myself in as many areas as possible. Furthermore, I am a former dancer, and my stage experience will undoubtedly help me with stage presence. Lastly, I love contributing to something bigger than myself, which is why I am excited to support the charity we are working with: Simavi Foundation.
Tell us a fun fact or a special story about yourself:
One of the most frequently asked questions I’ve received since childhood is: Is that really all your hair? And the answer is—yes, it’s all mine!
